Events Salsa Team Canada
Salsa Team Canada (STC) is national Salsa Dance troupe representing Canada across the world. STC is a project created by Sonia & Moris from San Tropez dance school in Montreal. Then, the goal was to reunite all salsa dancers from each major Canadian cities, to perform together in one choreography at the Puerto Salsa Congress. This project was a HUGE success. It received wide acceptance from the West coast all the way to the east coast reminding us of our Canadian Motto: A Mari usque ad Mare ("From Sea to Sea"). The following major cities were involved in the project: Vancouver, Galgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal & Halifax
For 2009, Sonia & Moris decided to revive this project for one more perofmance to be perfomed at the 2009 Montreal Salsa Convention scheduled for April 15-19th, 2009. Ottawa will be forming a team and we are looking for dancers who have mastered the advance level (must be a semipro or professional dancer); must be willing to rehearse at least twice a week starting in December; must be willing to take criticism and must be a team player. If this is you and you want to join Team Ottawa - Salsa Team Canada, email me at info@caribbeanlatingroove.com or info@latindance.net West Side Story
You want to be part of SERIOUS dance troupe? The Ottawa Salseros will be performing their debut routine called "West Side Story" at the 2009 Canadian Salsa Festival in Ottawa. But first.....we need to create this team. We are making an official callout to all the Salseros and Salseras from Ottawa who are interested to be part of this production to email the Director/Choreographer Carlo Bernard at info@caribbeanlatingroove.com. This productions is open to all dancers who have mastered the Intermediate level of Salsa. We are not going to teach how to dance....., we are going to show you and train you to perform this choreography. It's going to be approx 10min long choreography which will include several parts of the World Acclaim Broadway show "West Side Story".
Set in Manhattan's West Side/Hell's Kitchen in the mid-1950s, the musical explores the rivalry between two teenage gangs of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds....The Sharks (Puerto Ricans) & The Jets (White Anglo Saxon). The young protagonist, Anton ("Tony"), who belongs to the Jets gang, falls in love with Maria, the sister of the leader of the Sharks. The Ottawa Salseros will recreate, in 10minutes, several scenes from Act I of this Show. We will start with the "Proloque" to introduce the dancers. We will introduce the Jets through the "Jet Song". Then we will introduce the "Mambo" scene where both gangs challenge each other at a local dance party.....hence, introducing the part where "Tony" and "Maria" first fall in love (Love at first sight) with the song "Tonight, Tonight"
We are looking for lots of men. Guys, its time to step up on the plate and show the ladies how it's done. We need at least fifteen men and fifteen ladies for this choreography. There will be no audition for this choreography. If you are interested, email us at info@caribbeanlatingroove.com as soon as possible. Rehearsals will begin in January 2009. Two rehearsals a week. TIme and place to be determined.
